It all started with writing. Later on, I became a translator after living in London and pursuing the necessary language and translation courses. Since 2016, I have been working full-time as a Dutch to English translator and Dutch copy editor.

I have:

  • obtained a master's degree in Literature (University of Utrecht) in 2002,
  • completed the module General Translation Skills at the ITV School of Interpreters & Translators, Utrecht, in 2016,
  • passed the Cambridge Advanced English exam with Grade A (C2 level) in 2015,
  • recently completed a course in commercial writing and SEO,
  • several publications to my name, including 5 books and an article in the national newspaper de Volkskrant (about spoken English in the Netherlands),
  • handled the subsidies for several projects in the fields of art, culture, and education in the Netherlands.

I am looking for a translator

Are you looking for a technical translator? In that case, I am more than happy to help you. I have many years of experience as a technical translator. For almost 7 years, I was the lead translator for an international manufacturer. For them, I translated everything from work instructions and audit forms to safety instructions and HR documents. Additionally, I have also translated manuals. I am a curious and meticulous person – two qualities that are very useful for technical translations.

My other specialization is marketing translation. I have translated various marketing documents, such as blog articles for a company that provides SEO services to SMEs. But also b2c product descriptions and b2c marketing campaigns. For the British marketing agency Oliver Agency, I have translated and edited for several of their accounts. For marketing, it is important to be creative with language and to speak the language of the target audience. Actually, every marketing translation is a linguistic adventure!

It all started for me with my love for writing. That's why it's no surprise that I have contributed to several books and book translations, both large (bestseller from a national publisher) and small (publications from a non-profit foundation focused on self-development). But I have also worked with authors directly on their publications or translations.

Copy editor wanted

At the moment, 50% of my work consists of copy editing. I edit both translations and texts written in Dutch. Text editing is not a one size fits all approach. Every writer has different weaknesses and blind spots. And as a copy editor, it is my job to bring the writer's message properly into the spotlight. Because, in the end, what we want is to have an error-free text that achieves its goal.

Assistance with subsidy applications

If you have a project in mind and want to explore the possibilities of applying for a subsidy, I would be more than happy to assist you. And if you decide to apply for a subsidy, I can also assist you in writing, if you wish. I have done this for many years for a literary and art foundation and for individuals, as well for an educational project that, thanks to subsidies granted, has grown from an idea at the kitchen table into a national platform that is used in schools and libraries throughout the Netherlands. Often, there is more possible than you may think.

Who are my clients?

I work for various mostly international translation agencies. One of these agencies is the company that built my translation software. But I also have several direct clients, such as the American think tank RAND. I can help improve your text in various ways.

Which tools do I use?

I use the translation program Trados Studio. And I also have a lot of experience with XTM.
