Do you have a series of technical documents that need to be translated? Or do you have an English manual that you want translated? No problem! I can do that for you. I have translated various technical documents for many years. Think of manuals, work instructions, audit forms, safety instructions, subtitles for instructional videos, and HR documents with job descriptions and performance reviews. For technical translations, I always use Trados Studio. Thanks to its translation memory, terminology database, and quality assurance options, this ensures a precise and faithful translation.
I have experience with documents in the manufacturing industry, energy and energy transition, safety, and HR. For example, I have translated various documents and blogs for a manufacturer of EV charging solutions.
Translation is investigating
One of the best movie quotes comes from the movie "Under Siege 2" with Steven Seagal: "Assumption is the mother of all fuck ups." The boss of the villains berates his underlings for not checking whether Steven Seagal was really dead. It's the same with technical translation: you should never assume that something is as you think it is. Checking, investigating, and scrutinizing are important parts of the work of a technical translator.
Translation is learning
I am naturally curious and enjoy learning new things. That's also what appeals to me about technical translations: investigating and learning how things work. This can be done through technical drawings or instructional videos, but also by talking to people on the shop floor who are experts in their field.
As lead translator, I visited the plants of one of my clients and I had regularly contact with their experts to ensure that the correct terms were used. And I incorporated their feedback into a termbase. This is a database of terms specifically intended for translations. Such as termbase contains a specific explanation for each term, but can also contain, for example, images, YouTube links, and descriptions about in which discipline or context a certain term should be used in.
